Hand Job Fine Arts and Crafts Market Continues Despite Looming Recession Atmosphere

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – San Antonio, TX, 25 November 2022

Hand Job™ hosts it’s annual in-person fine arts and crafts market for Small Business Saturday, November 26th, 2022 from noon to 5PM at the Leon Valley Community Center. The event offers free on-site parking, free entry for guests, and the building is accessible to people of all abilities.

“For me, I had to think about if I could afford to do the event again with my personal budget tightening up with this pandemic-recession, and considering I put so much of my personal cash to organizing this event. I am glad I did it though because the vendors that signed up sound excited to have an indoors pop-up market to showcase at. Even on good years, I wonder if I can afford to put this all together again, but it seems I always end up working out. I hope local patrons can make it out to support the vendors to make sure they are taken care of,” said Ellice Sanchez, event organizer.

Tightening budgets, health issues, and family issues seem to have affected vendor participation this year. Since the pop-up vendors are mostly 1-person businesses, it does not take much to disrupt business as normal.

“I thought I was going to have a fully booked venue and space would be a problem, but I had a number of vendors requesting a booth and not end up paying the booth fees. This makes the vendors that are joining even more precious to the event, as they are the event,” said Sanchez, “It takes a lot of courage, time, money, luck, and talent for vendors to open up shop, but it also takes local support from shoppers to stay open.”

Vendors this year are selling items such as: mittens, scarfs, plushies, art prints, sculptures, Ouija board planchettes, purses, wallets, make-up bags, Christmas decorations, house décor, paintings, pottery, garden décor, trellises, wood craft, hats, silk screened bags, oracle cards, ethically-sourced stone kits, and multiple types jewelry, beaded necklaces & bracelets, polymer clay earrings, sterling silver soldered rings & necklaces, and wire-wrapped-gemstones jewelry,

The event does have some repeat vendors and some vendors selling items for their first time ever at any pop-up market.

“One of my vendors just got their sales tax permit mailed in yesterday, which is a testament to how newly established they are. I think the accepting event nature of allowing anything to be sold as long as it is handmade, and not judging people on personal bias of what is ‘good-enough’ seems to attract the emerging handmade-only vendors,” said Sanchez. “I also had one vendor last year who said this was the only event she made sales at, and great sales too-boot, so the Leon Valley area must be the right place to show love to these creatives.”
