Looking to buy something that is handmade, unique and supports a local Texas artist/artisan? This small business Saturday, November 30th, a new indoor fine arts and crafts market, “Hand Job,” will be hosted at the Leon Valley Community Center from noon to 8PM. There is free on-site parking and the market is accessible to people of all needs.
This market has the smallest of businesses, some newly applying for their sales tax permits in preparation for this event. Because these are local artisans/artists, money spent here stays in the local San Antonio economy.
Products sold by vendors include items like: Sterling silver/gemstone jewelry, bath bombs, silk screen bags, woodwork, tapestries, ceramics, painted artwork, bird houses, doll houses and soap. All items are verified to be made by hand through the artisan application process and the actual artist/artisans that made the products will be present.
“The arts and crafts that I make are not suited for an outdoor event and I thought there would be others with delicate high-end crafts in the same boat, so I decided to make my own indoor market. As a shopper and as a creator, I shaped this event in a way I would enjoy participating in. I knew going into this I would operate this as a business loss, but offering a safe place to sell artisan quality goods to other local artists was important to me,” said Sanchez, the event organizer,” I hope that with enough support from the community, I can continue to offer a space for high-end artists/artisans to share their passion with the community. San Antonio is a very friendly and open-minded city, so I think this is the right place for this type of arts and crafts market that welcomes people from all backgrounds.”
